Community: ask, share wins and find players

    New
    • New
New Community page: ask, share wins and find players. more ▾

Community is open, next to Play in the menu. Ask study questions, talk about exam day, share your wins and post Play invites with your party code. Every student can read and tap Helpful; students with full access can post and reply.

    • New
Report, mute and block, plus Teaching points from moderators. more ▾

To keep it a safe study room: links, phone numbers and selling are not allowed, a student's first few posts get a quick check, and you can report, mute or block anyone. Moderators can add a Teaching point under a post when a tip needs correcting.

Play: Rapid Fire Time Attack, one-topic games, friends up top

    ImprovedNew
    • Improved
Rapid Fire: right answers add time, no more 3 lives. more ▾

Rapid Fire has no lives now. You start with 2 minutes: a right answer adds 10 seconds and a wrong one takes 10, so a careful run goes further.

    • New
Play one topic, not only one NP. more ▾

Rapid Fire, parties and Challenge can now be one topic, such as Hematologic Disorders or Oncologic Emergencies. Pick the NP, then choose the topic from the list under it.

    • Improved
Friends list moved up, with Play live on each friend. more ▾

Your friends now sit higher on the Play page, each with a Play live button. People you only played with fold under them.

    • Improved
Six more quick-chat phrases. more ▾

Quick chat in group games has six more phrases: Ready!, Wait for me, Rematch?, One more?, Thanks! and Learned a lot.

    Represent your school

    New
    • New
Pick your school to see schoolmates and the weekly top schools. more ▾

Pick your nursing school in Play or Settings to see schoolmates on BoardPal and help your school climb the weekly top schools board. It's optional, and you can hide yourself or leave anytime.

Play: open parties up top, Cup card knows when it ends

    ImprovedFixed
    • Improved
Open parties now show near the top of Play. more ▾

When a party is open, it now shows near the top of the Play page, right under your player card, so you can join without scrolling.

    • Fixed
The Cup card no longer shows Rejoin after the show ends. more ▾

Once tonight's Nightingale's Cup ends, its card now says so and no longer shows Rejoin.

Live Match: read the why, tap Next together

    ImprovedNewFixed
    • Improved
Live games show the first line of the why right away. more ▾

When the answer shows in a live game, the first line of the explanation now shows right away, and the screen moves down to it on a phone. The full explanation is still one tap away, and every one waits for you at the end of the game.

    • New
Live Match: Next together, plus 2 timeouts each. more ▾

In a Live Match, tap Next when you are ready: once both players tap it, the next question starts. Each player also has 2 timeouts a match; a timeout gives you both 20 more seconds on the answer screen.

    • Fixed
Type It accepts 12-20 for 12 to 20, and 3 for three. more ▾

Type It now accepts numbers however you write them: 12-20 counts the same as 12 to 20, and 3 the same as three. The same number without its unit (30 for 30 mL/hr) shows as close, so you can tap I was right.

Resetting your study plan keeps your exam date

    Fixed
    • Fixed
A reset no longer changes your exam date. more ▾

Resetting your study plan used to clear your exam date, so the new plan quietly used a date 90 days away instead of the one you chose. A reset now keeps your exam date. If this already happened to you, your Study Plan shows a card with your earlier date: tap it to switch back, and everything you have ticked off stays done.

Notifications when a friend invites you

    NewImproved
    • New
A friend's Play invite can now buzz your phone. more ▾

When a friend invites you to play live, sends you a challenge or invites you to a party, your phone or laptop can now buzz. At most 6 a day, never between 11 PM and 7 AM, and you can switch them off in Settings under Play invites from friends. While you wait for a friend, you see when the invite reached their phone.

    • Improved
One-tap reminder when your free questions are done. more ▾

When today's free questions are done, you can turn on a daily reminder in one tap, right on that card.

    • Improved
Your reminder tells you when your renewal discount opens. more ▾

If you have the daily reminder on, the day your renewal discount opens, that day's reminder tells you about the discount instead. Still one reminder a day.

    • New
Tell us your exam month in one tap. more ▾

Home asks free students one quick question: when is your PNLE? Tap February, August, Later or Not sure. It only helps us time our reminders; your exam countdown still comes from your study plan.

    Play live with any friend

    Improved
    • Improved
Play live with any friend, or let them play later. more ▾

Every friend in the Challenge list now has a Play live button, not only the ones studying right now. If your friend is not on BoardPal, "Play now, they play later" shows after 15 seconds, like Live Match. The play-later screen now says plainly "You play first. Ana plays later."

Play: live challenges with friends, a tidier card, Play in the tab bar

    NewImproved
    • New
Challenge a friend live, or let them play later. more ▾

Challenge is now live first. Pick a friend who is studying now and wait for them to join; they get a Join button on their Play page and Home, and you play the same 10 questions at the same time. If they are not around, tap "Play now, they play later" and it works like before.

    • Improved
A cleaner Play card on phones. more ▾

The top Play card on phones is tidier: your badges sit in three even tiles under your name, one pencil button changes your frame and badges, and the level bar shows your real progress with its shine kept inside the gold.

    • Improved
Play is in the bottom bar; the logo takes you Home. more ▾

Play now has its own button in the bar at the bottom of the screen on phones and tablets, where Home was. The BoardPal logo at the top and the menu still take you Home, and the middle Practice button now shows a tick box.

The free PNLE tracker, now in Resources

    Improved
    • Improved
Find the free PNLE tracker in Resources. more ▾

The free PNLE tracker, a Google Sheets checklist of every PNLE topic with an exam countdown and a practice score log, now has its own row in Resources, under My Notes and Bookmarks. Before, it was only linked from our public pages. From a student who could not find it.

A sound when a mock or timed set runs out

    New
    • New
Mocks and timed sets now ring when time runs out. more ▾

When a mock exam section reaches its last 10 seconds, or a timed practice set runs out, BoardPal now plays a sound with the Time's up box. It uses the sound and volume you picked in the study Timer, so open the Timer to choose a louder one, or turn it off with "Sound when a mock or timed set runs out". From a student who wanted to hear when time was up.

    Play: Pulse grows with you

    New
    • New
Pulse gets new gear as you level up. more ▾

Pulse gets a new item at every game level from 2 to 10: a clinical ID, a cap band and nursing pin, a penlight, a stethoscope, a watch, scrubs, a patient chart, a gold stethoscope and a second cap band, with gold bands at 15 and Nightingale's lamp at 20.

    • New
See Pulse's next item, and his new one when you level up. more ▾

The Play page shows what Pulse gets next and how much XP is left, and leveling up shows Pulse with his new item. Your level-up and result pictures show him too.

Play: send challenges to friends, see who is studying, Pulse the coach

    NewImproved
    • New
Send challenges to friends inside the app. more ▾

Send a challenge to a friend inside BoardPal: it waits at the top of their Play page and on their Home until they play it. Tap Challenge on a friend's player card, or pick friends after you make one. The link still works for anyone else.

    • New
See which friends are studying now. more ▾

See when friends and squadmates are studying: a green dot and 'Studying now', or when they were last active. Only friends and squadmates see yours, and you can hide it under Your games on the Play page.

    • Improved
Pulse is redrawn and gives you tips on the Play page. more ▾

Pulse, the Play mascot, is redrawn with more expressions, a heartbeat and a wave. On the Play page he tells you one useful thing at a time, like an open party, your free rounds or your best streak. Tap him for the next.

    • Improved
Open parties show first, with their topic and wait time. more ▾

Open parties now sit at the top of With others while one is waiting, with the topic and how long it has waited. Hosts of a public party see a waiting clock, so other students have time to join.

    • New
A Play row on Home. more ▾

Home has a Play row that takes you straight to the games, or into a public party when one is open.

    • Improved
Clearer labels on the With others games. more ▾

Every With others game now says who it is for: Live Match 1v1, Quiz Show and Code Blue Group, Challenge Anytime.

Play: harder Match Up, upbeat music, games in History

    ImprovedNew
    • Improved
Match Up: 8 answers per board, a twin for each. more ▾

Match Up is harder: every answer now has a look-alike twin that fits nothing, so each board has 8 answers for 4 sentences. A twin is the opposite when there is one (hypokalemia beside hyperkalemia), or the answer to a question of the same kind.

    • Improved
Three upbeat music tracks, one per kind of game. more ▾

Game music is upbeat now, with three tracks: one for Code Blue and Live Match, one for Quiz Show and Nightingale's Cup, and one for Match Up and Type It. It still starts off; tap the music note in a game to turn it on.

    • Improved
Live Match: every topic, faster pairing. more ▾

Live Match now uses questions from every topic, so you find a player faster. To play one topic with others, start a party.

    • Improved
The Nightly Show is now Nightingale's Cup. more ▾

The 9 PM Nightly Show is now called Nightingale's Cup.

    • New

Save the questions you miss in games to your Vault: tap Save on any result screen, or switch on auto-save under Your games on the Play page. Games still never change your readiness score.

    • New
Games in History, with your strong and weak topics. more ▾

History now has a Games filter: every game you finish, what you missed with each explanation, and your strongest and weakest Nursing Practice from the last 30 days of games.

    • Improved
History grouped by day, with a summary for each. more ▾

History is grouped by day, each day with a one-line summary, and your games on a day show as one line in All.

    • Improved
Live Match shows a 1v1 tag. more ▾

The Live Match tile now shows a 1v1 tag, so you can tell at a glance it is you against one other student.

Play: Quick match against a live student, music and quick chat

    NewFixed
    • New
Quick match: play another student live, or a recorded round. more ▾

Quick match replaces Play someone new. Tap Find a player and BoardPal looks for another student searching at the same moment; when it finds one, you both play the same 10 questions live. If nobody turns up within 15 seconds, you can play a real student's recorded round, clearly marked as recorded, or keep waiting. Free accounts get one Quick match a day.

    • New
Optional background music in games, off until you turn it on. more ▾

Games can now play soft background music. It starts off; tap the music note at the top of any game to turn it on. Sound effects keep their own switch.

The game title now sits in the middle of the top bar on party and Nightly Show screens, the Nightly Show lobby no longer stacks players' level numbers on top of each other, and the Quiz Show description now says that everyone answers and faster right answers score more.

Lung-clot clot-buster card names both versions

    Fixed
    • Fixed
The lung-clot clot-buster card now names both versions of the surgery rule. more ▾

The flashcard on alteplase for a pulmonary embolism now asks for the one history item every source treats as a firm bar, a recent hemorrhagic stroke, and notes that books grade recent surgery differently. The matching practice question's explanation gets the same note overnight.

Two cram sheets now name both versions too

    Fixed
    • Fixed
Two cram sheets now show both versions where the IMCI charts and disaster plans differ. more ▾

The Immunization, Maternal & Child Health & Nutrition sheet (page 15) now shows where the 2014 and 2019 WHO young-infant charts differ: fever is 37.5 °C on one and 38 °C on the other, and fast breathing alone at 7 to 59 days means very severe disease on the older chart but pneumonia on the newer one. The Environmental Health, Disaster & Records sheet (page 8) now notes that RA 10121 files early warning and hazard maps under preparedness while the NDRRMP files them under prevention and mitigation. Your highlights and notes stay where you left them.

IMCI, disaster and stroke cards name both versions

    Fixed
    • Fixed
Five flashcards and three IMCI questions now name both versions where sources differ. more ▾

Where the books, charts and laws disagree, five flashcards now say so instead of picking one quietly. The young-infant IMCI cards teach the signs the 2014 and 2019 WHO charts share, and name each chart's fever line and fast-breathing rule. The disaster preparedness card follows RA 10121's own list and notes where the NDRRMP files early warning and hazard mapping. The stroke clot-buster card asks about active internal bleeding, the one bar no source softens. Three IMCI practice question explanations get the same update overnight.

Flashcards no longer give the answer away by comparison

    Fixed
    • Fixed
77 flashcards that gave their answer away by comparison now test the fact. more ▾

77 flashcards printed the opposite of their own answer, or the other half of a pair, right next to the blank. One example: "brain death is the ___ loss … whereas a coma keeps some function and can recover". You could fill them in without knowing the topic. Each one now tests the fact itself, and the comparison moved to the note under the answer or became a "which one?" card that teaches both sides.

Capillary refill now matches on two more cram sheets

    Fixed
    • Fixed
Capillary refill now reads 2 seconds or longer on two more sheets. more ▾

The Musculoskeletal compartment-syndrome picture and two spots on the Critical Care sheet (the circulation row on page 2 and the shock picture) now say a capillary refill of 2 seconds or longer is delayed, matching the rest of BoardPal. Nothing else on those pages moved, so your highlights stay put.

Play someone new, and friends in Play

    New
    • New
Play someone new: another student's round, any time. more ▾

Play someone new: answer the same 10 questions another BoardPal student played, any time, without waiting for anyone to be online. After each answer you see how they did. A switch on that screen stops others playing your rounds.

    • New
Add people you played with as friends. more ▾

Add as friend: after a match, a party or a challenge, tap Add. Once they accept, they stay in your list so you can invite them again any time.

Eight flashcards and one cram sheet line corrected against the books

    FixedImproved
    • Fixed
Stroke drug card: recent surgery is a relative, not absolute, bar. more ▾

A stroke card now teaches that recent major surgery is a relative reason to hold the clot-dissolving drug (weighed with a stroke expert), while active internal bleeding rules it out. It used to call surgery an absolute bar.

    • Fixed
Referral, teen-clinic and family-care-plan cards follow the official sources. more ▾

Referral and community cards now follow the official wording: the DOH uniform referral form's sections, the five qualities of adolescent-friendly health services, and the four qualities Maglaya asks of a family-care-plan objective.

    • Improved
Falls and well-child cards now say where their facts come from. more ▾

The falls card now teaches that falls are the leading cause of injury in adults 65 and older, and the well-child visit card says plainly that its ages are the US schedule; the DOH weighs and measures children under 2 every month.

    • Fixed
Musculoskeletal cram sheet: capillary refill now under 2 seconds. more ▾

On the Musculoskeletal cram sheet, normal capillary refill now reads under 2 seconds, matching the flashcards and practice questions. Nothing else on the page moved, so your highlights stay put.

Partners can be paid part of a month early

    New
    • New
Partners can be paid part of a month early. more ▾

When a partner needs their commission before the month closes, we can now send part of it early. The Partner Portal shows what was sent early and what is still to come, and the month-end payout covers only the rest.

Ten flashcard decks read again, seventy-seven cards sharpened

    ImprovedFixedNew
    • Improved
Ten flashcard decks read again; seventy-seven cards sharpened. more ▾

Every card in ten decks was read again against its practice question: Health Laws (Maternal, Child and Reproductive), Vulnerable Population Groups, Referral System, Stroke, Health Laws (NCD, Environment and Nutrition), Pneumonia, Leprosy, Eye Anatomy and Refractive Disorders, Trauma-Related Disorders, and the PH Health Care Delivery System. Seventy-seven cards now name the look-alike you might mix them up with, or teach the point their question turns on. Type It and Match Up use these cards too.

    • Fixed
Seven flashcards corrected against their sources. more ▾

Seven cards were corrected against their sources: a GIDA needs both a physical and a socio-economic barrier; the UHC Act's own term is health care provider network; an unstable referral needs a trained health worker as escort; VAP is its own label, not a kind of HAP (two cards); the PTSD stressor includes serious injury and sexual violence, and dissociation is not required; and in a two-way referral the client comes back too, with feedback.

    • New
Eight new flashcards fill gaps the questions test. more ▾

Eight new cards fill gaps the practice questions test: RA 9288 vs RA 9709 newborn screens, thin liquids after a stroke, the 60-minute arrival-to-infusion stroke standard, subglottic secretion drainage, the urinary antigen test, the nerves of the pupil light reflex, the intrusion cluster of PTSD, and the two conditions for reassigning a public health worker.

Play page: tidier tiles and one button style

    ImprovedFixed
    • Improved
Play page: one tile for every game, one button style. more ▾

The Play page is tidier: all six games now use the same tile, three across on wider screens, and Join with a code has its own box. Every button reacts the same way when you point at it, press it or reach it with the Tab key.

    • Fixed
Game tiles and answer buttons now press down when tapped. more ▾

The solo game tiles and the answer buttons inside games now press down when you tap them, like the other buttons.

    NewImproved
    • New
Play tab: Rapid Fire, Type It and Match Up. more ▾

A new Play tab under Practice, in beta. Rapid Fire (beat the clock with 3 lives), Type It (type the missing word on a flashcard) and Match Up (pair answers to sentences). Every game ends with what you missed and why. Tap Suggest an idea on the Play page to tell us what to add.

    • New
Quiz Show and Code Blue parties, and challenge links. more ▾

Play with friends: with full access, open a Quiz Show or a Code Blue team round and send the link or 6-letter code, or send a challenge link with 10 questions friends can play any time within 48 hours. Anyone can join a party or a challenge a friend sends, free.

    • New
The 9 PM Nightly Show, plus levels and badges. more ▾

The Nightly Show: everyone plays the same 15 questions at 9 PM Manila time. Games earn XP, levels and badges, and count toward your study streak. They never change your leaderboard score.

    • Improved
Match Up: look-alike answers and two decoys per board. more ▾

Match Up is harder: the answers on each board look alike (for example hypokalemia, hyperkalemia and hypoglycemia), and two extra answers fit nothing, so you have to read every sentence.

Sign in with Google, and a wider page on laptops

    NewImproved
    • New
Continue with Google on the sign-up and log-in pages. more ▾

Sign up or log in with one tap using Continue with Google. Your email and password still work the same.

    • New
Laptops: ☰ hides the side menu for a wider page. more ▾

On laptops, the ☰ button at the top left now hides the side menu so the page gets wider. Tap it again to bring the menu back. BoardPal remembers your choice on that device.

    • Improved

The Account menu is shorter. Take the tour, Student Stories, About BoardPal and Free PNLE Guides are now on the Help & Support page, and What's New is the bell at the top.

    A new, simpler layout

    NewImproved
    • New
Laptops: a menu down the left side, every page one click away. more ▾

On laptops, the menu now runs down the left side, always open, with every page one click away and a Start practicing button on top.

    • New
Phones and tablets: five tabs at the bottom. more ▾

On phones and tablets, five tabs sit at the bottom: Home, Cram Sheets, Practice, Flashcards and Study Plan. Everything else is in the menu at the top left.

    • Improved

Home is tidier: the cram sheet you were reading joins Continue where you left off, and Flashcards shows how many cards are due.

    • New
Prefer the old layout? It is under Account for a few weeks. more ▾

Prefer the old layout? Pick Use the old layout under Account in the menu. It stays available for a few weeks while we listen to what you think.

    Smoother moves between pages

    Improved
    • Improved
Moving between pages is smoother, with nothing jumping around. more ▾

Moving between pages is smoother: the menu and the top bar stay in place while the next page loads, the item you tapped lights up right away, and nothing jumps sideways.

    Calmer full access cards

    FixedImproved
    • Fixed
The full access card on Vault and History now sits near the top. more ▾

On the free plan, the Vault and History pages now show a short blurred glimpse of your own questions and sessions, with the full access card right under it, instead of far down the page.

    • Improved
Full access and daily limit cards are simpler and easier to read. more ▾

Full access and daily limit cards are simpler and easier to read: your own count is in the heading (like 50 questions are waiting in your Vault), and the buttons sit together at the bottom right.

Study Plan preview: no more ticking locked tasks

    Fixed
    • Fixed
Locked preview tasks show a lock instead of a tick box, with no confetti. more ▾

On the free Study Plan preview, today's tasks now show a lock instead of a tick box, since they open with full access. Tapping one shows what full access adds. Tapping a locked task also no longer sets off confetti.

    • Fixed
One confetti burst per task, and one for finishing the day. more ▾

Tapping a tick box many times in a row no longer piles up confetti. Each task gets one small burst, and finishing the whole day celebrates once.

Rewritten questions on prioritization and delegation

    ImprovedFixed
    • Improved
Prioritization and delegation questions rewritten, with test-taking tips. more ▾

92 one-answer questions on Nursing Process and Prioritization were rewritten, and the new versions replace the old ones from November 6. Wrong options were rebuilt so each one is something a nurse could defend, and the explanations are about a sixth shorter, open with the answer and define every term. Questions that repeated others now test their own ground. 88 of them also get a Test-taking tip you can open after you answer. Each question was checked by a reviewer. The answers are unchanged.

    • Fixed
Oxygen target and nursing attendant tasks corrected. more ▾

Explanations no longer give 92 percent as the oxygen level an adult should keep; for most adults the target is above 95 percent. Delegation questions now follow the Philippine rule that a nursing attendant does not give medicines or change dressings.

Tap Test-taking tip under an explanation to see how to reason your way to the answer. more ▾

Some practice questions now have a Test-taking tip under the explanation. Tap it to see how to reason your way to the answer, such as how to handle a "needs correcting" question or how to choose which patient to see first. It stays closed until you tap it and appears only where a strategy truly helps, so you will see it on a few questions for now and on more over time.

In a cram sheet's tools, tap Flashcard to start making cards right away. It turns on highlighting and shows the Make a flashcard and Picture card buttons in one tap. On phones these used to sit off the edge of the screen.

Make flashcards from a cram sheet: highlight a line or crop a picture, and the card links back to its page. more ▾

In a cram sheet, turn on Select text and highlight a line, then tap Make a flashcard. Tap the word you want to hide and it becomes the blank on the front of your card, or write your own question instead. Picture card turns a table or figure into a card: drag a box around it. Cards go to a deck named after the sheet (you can pick another), and each one links back to the page it came from.

    New
    • New
A Spaced review switch in the Vault: missed questions come back a week later until you get them right twice. more ▾

The Vault has a new Spaced review switch. Turn it on and a question you miss comes back after a week, then leaves the Vault only after you get it right twice, a week apart, so it sticks for exam day. Tapping "I've got this" still clears a question at once. It is off unless you turn it on, and your Vault works as before.

On shorter screens (a tablet held sideways, a small laptop), the top of the study timer panel, including the switch between Pomodoro and Stopwatch, could sit above the edge of the screen where you could not reach it. The panel now always starts on screen and scrolls if it needs more room.

Once in a while, a short optional question may appear on Home, asking how you first heard about BoardPal or how your review is going. It never shows during practice or mock exams, it stays quiet in the two weeks before your exam, and you can skip it or turn it off with one tap.

    • Improved
Explanations on 298 more questions shortened, every reason and definition kept. more ▾

The explanations on 298 more one-answer questions were shortened to 150 words or fewer, down from about 200 words for a typical one. Each still opens with the answer, gives every reason the answer is right and every reason each other option is wrong, and keeps a plain definition of every term it relies on. Each was checked by two reviewers. The question itself was also shortened on 3 of them, without removing anything the answer needs. The answers are unchanged.

A password reset on a phone or tablet now works when you log in. more ▾

On iPhones and iPads, showing your password while typing it let the keyboard capitalize, autocorrect or add a space to it, so the password you saved could differ from the one you typed at log-in. Password boxes now switch those keyboard changes off. After a reset, your phone's saved-passwords list now updates the password for your email instead of keeping the old one, and a new password can no longer start or end with a hidden space.

Glaucoma and cataract questions rewritten: shorter, harder choices. more ▾

38 one-answer questions on Glaucoma and Cataract were rewritten. The questions are about a third shorter and keep only the details that decide the answer. Wrong options were rebuilt so each one is something a nurse could believe, and the explanations are shorter, open with the answer and define every term. Questions that repeated others now test their own ground, such as eye drops with contact lenses, colors looking brighter after cataract surgery, and family members getting their eyes checked. Each question was checked by a reviewer. The answers are unchanged.

    • Fixed
Glaucoma screening, pilocarpine and cataract timing explanations corrected. more ▾

The glaucoma screening question now teaches a full dilated eye exam instead of an eye pressure check alone. A pilocarpine explanation that said the drops do not change focusing was corrected. The question on when to have cataract surgery no longer calls it elective, so it matches the surgery classification questions.
